Planning for a Leaking Vehicle: From Recovery to Handover
Carry containment checks from the scene through transport, staging, and the receiving handoff.
The containment plan needs to follow the vehicle through each handoff. A setup that fits at the roadside may need adjustment on the truck or at the yard.
At the scene
Identify the leak and the crew's response role before selecting a control. Note where fluid is leaving the vehicle and where it could go during the first movement. Share the placement with the person directing recovery.
During loading and transport
Check the mat and cords when the vehicle angle changes. Recovery gear secures the vehicle; the bungees position the mat. Correct interference before movement continues and inspect the final transport position.
At handover
Tell the receiving person what fluid is known or suspected, which controls are installed and when they were checked. Assign the next inspection rather than leaving the mat's condition for the next shift to discover.
